Learning Disability/ ASD Parent & Carer Workshops
We regularly run a range of seminars throughout the year for parents/carers of children with a moderate to severe Learning Disability and/or Autism who live in North Derbyshire. These seminars are free and places are limited so please do book early.
Monday 17th June 2019, Buxton based
This session will help you understand what anxiety looks like in young people with ASD and/or LD, as well as the common causes of anxiety. Discuss and share ideas about tips and strategies to help your young person manage their anxiety.
Mindfulness and Mindful Parenting
Thursday 11th July 2019, Fairplay Chesterfield
This session will help you learn about mindfulness approaches and try taster exercises and consider how you can apply mindfulness techniques to parenting, to respond in more helpful ways.
Sensory Processing Difficulties
Wednesday 11th September 2019, Lecture Room B, Education Centre, Chesterfield Royal Hospital
This session will help you learn about sensory processing difficulties for young people with LD / ASD and find out what you can do to help your child regulate their sensory systems.
Positive Behaviour Support for Managing Challenging Behaviour
Monday 14th October 2019, Fairplay, Chesterfield
This session will help you to understand the possible triggers and functions of challenging behaviour for someone with LD/ASD and think about positive behaviour support strategies for managing challenging behaviours.
Puberty and Sexuality
Friday 22nd November 2019, Fairfield Children’s Centre, Buxton
This session will help you to feel more confident to support your child to understand puberty and sexuality and learn about proactive approaches to help keep your child safe.
These information sessions aim to support parents/caregivers of young people who have a diagnosis of moderate to severe Learning Disability and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Foster carers should access our Professionals Seminars, which will be more appropriate.
For all sessions, please arrive at 9.15am for registration and tea/coffee, which will be provided.
