Workshops for Professionals

 
 

Introduction

 

At CAMHS, we offer FREE training workshops to all professionals who work with children and young people in North Derbyshire and the High Peaks and Dales.

These workshops are delivered by CAMHS professionals and cover a variety of topics including common mental health difficulties, learning disabilities and autism. They give professionals the opportunity to learn about up-to-date mental health research, tools and apps, learn new skills and strategies and enables professionals to network with other services and other professionals.

There are also several resources available on our website. 

For parents of young people with a learning disability or autism, or professionals working with these young people, a number of pre-recorded webinars can be accessed here:

Emotional regulation and Coping Strategies

Date:  Friday 30th January 2026

Time : 9:15 – 11:15

Outline of session

·         Learn about what impacts on a child or young person’s ability to regulate their emotions

·         The role of coping strategies in manging distress

·         Supporting young people to recognise their emotions and develop their own personal coping strategies

·         Learn about appropriate services in Derbyshire to support children with their mental health and how to access them.

Looking Behind the Behaviour:

An Introduction to Child and Adolescent Mental Health

Date: Thursday 29th January 2026 and 12th February 2026

Time: 9:30 – 12:00                                      

Venue: Birdholme Children's Centre, 2 Church Street, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, S40 2TF

Outline of session :

  • Reflect on children’s behaviour and consider what may be driving it, for instance, anxiety, low mood, neurodiversity or safeguarding reasons.

  • This session is the starting point for all further Mental health training and gives professionals a foundation around mental health so that further training to explore more mental health elements can be achieved.

  • Learn about appropriate services in Derbyshire to support children with their mental health and how to access them.

Understanding Risk in Children and Young People

Date: Friday 13th February 2025

Time: 9:15-11:15

Outline of session

  • Explore and reflect on how Risk presents in children and young people.

  • To understand the difference between Self Injurious behaviours and Self harm behaviours

  • How can risk be reduced and managed.

  • How to formulate a plan of support for children, Young people and their families.

  • Learn about appropriate services in Derbyshire to support children with their mental health and how to access them.

  • Understanding neurodiversity and how it impacts on daily life

  • Communication differences and sensory issues

  • How mental health is affected.

  • SPELL framework and how this can be used in your setting.

  • Learn about appropriate services in Derbyshire to support children with their mental health and how to access them. When might CAMHS be indicated?
