Specialist Public Health Nurses/School Nurses

School Nurses have a pivotal role supporting children, young people and their families working across education, social care, other health services and the voluntary sector. They have a key role in prevention, protection, health promotion and early intervention for mental health and wellbeing.

Reaching out to children and young people in schools, in their communities and in the digital space, school nurses have the opportunity to assess a child’s needs holistically and by working collaboratively with others can improve outcomes for children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing. School nurses can offer more targeted work around anxiety and self-harm, for example, taking into account the social and environmental factors that impact on mental health. School nurses work with children aged 5-19 across Derbyshire, including the High Peak and Dales and the Glossop area.
